I thought with Mountain Lion that Messages are shown on both my Mac and iPhone (so I can start a chat on my iPhone and continue it on my Mac).

1. Jan 03, 2012  To convert a live link to text in rich text doc, either, (a) convert the whole document to plain text, as described above, or, (b) select the link, choose Edit.
2. From the Mac, wait for a popup to appear that will say something like “To send and receive your iPhone text messages from (phone number) on this Mac, enter the code below on your iPhone” From the iPhone, enter the six digit numerical code shown on the Mac screen exactly, then tap on “Allow”.

What is weird is that I seem to get an arbitrary set of messages on my Mac but it's definitely not fully in sync with the iPhone. A number of iPhone messages never show up on the Mac at all, or 1/2 of the conversation shows up.

Do I need to set something up specifically to make this work or is this as expected?

What's the Difference Between an iMessage and SMS (Text Message) Text messages are sent through your cellular data provider (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc), but iMessages are automatically routed through Apple’s servers, saving you data if you’re on Wi-Fi. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone and then tap through to Messages. Once there, swipe down to the section called Send & Receive and open that with a tap. Check off all that apply.

Messages on the Mac doesn't support SMS. Any message you send or receive on your iPhone as SMS won't show up in Messages on the Mac.

If you send a message as an iMessage, though, then it'll show up on the Mac. Now here's where it gets confusing: even though iMessages are 'data' and not 'text,' they can be sent between phone numbers. If you've got iPhones at both ends, a 'text' sent from one to the other will be sent as an iMessage by default. These messages will then appear in Messages on the Mac.

The cross-platform (Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X) editor, jEdit, supports syntax highlighting for over 200 programming languages and auto indent, as well as a differencing utility, an FTP browser, and block selecting. It is also extendable using plugins and macros, and there are hundreds of plugins and macros available through the built-in plugin manager feature.

Programmer’s Notepad for Windows supports syntax highlighting using schemes, both built-in and user-defined, code folding and outlining, a tabbed interface with multi-level split views, and the ability to export to HTML (using CSS) and RTF.

If you like the Vi editor in Linux, but prefer a graphical editor that also serves well as a programmer’s text editor, Editra and Komodo Edit are good options. They both provide Vi emulation, as well as support for syntax highlighting in many programming languages and code folding. Editra has a tabbed interface, allows block (un)commenting and (un)indenting, and is extendable using the built-in plugin downloader/installer. Komodo Edit supports background syntax checking and contains a toolbox with shell command integration, macros, and code snippets. Both Editra and Komodo Edit are available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
